RB Leipzig plans to sell Lutsharel Geertruida after Sunderland's purchase option has lapsed. The 25-year-old defender, who spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, could now be in the spotlight of several Premier League teams. According to reports from Sky Germany, Sunderland did not activate the purchase option, which was thought to be just under £20 million, potentially opening the door for Leeds United and other suitors. RB Leipzig aims to sell Geertruida permanently and has received inquiries from the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga. Sunderland remains in contention as they negotiate for a lower fee. Geertruida could also use the upcoming World Cup to enhance his prospects. Teams such as Leeds, Aston Villa, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Crystal Palace have monitored his situation. Clubs from Italy, Germany, France, and Spain have also lodged inquiries with Leipzig. Liverpool had shown interest in January but has since cooled off following the departure of head coach Arne Slot and has had no contact with Geertruida.
