RB Leipzig signs Ørjan Nyland back. The 35-year-old Norwegian goalkeeper returns to the club after a year at FC Sevilla. Nyland was already under contract with the Saxons in the 2022/23 season and won the DFB-Pokal with the team. "With Ørjan, we gain an extremely experienced goalkeeper whom we already know as a player and person. He has already shown during his first time with us that he is an absolute team player, reliable professional and always ready to take responsibility", says RBL-Sport Director Marcel Schäfer. Nyland last played for FC Sevilla; his contract expired in the summer. RB Leipzig replaces Peter Gulácsi with an experienced goalkeeper who already knows the club and completes the goalkeeper team. For Ørjan Nyland, it is already his second engagement in Leipzig: From October 2022 to August 2023, he played three official games for RBL and won the DFB-Pokal with the team. Last, Nyland impressed on the biggest football stage. As the Norwegian number one, he had a major role in the historic entry into the World Cup quarterfinals. Especially in the 2-1 win in the round of 16 against Brazil, the experienced goalkeeper showed an outstanding performance: He parried a penalty from Bruno Guimarães and held his team with further strong rescue actions in the game. Currently, RB Leipzig is in third place in the Bundesliga with 66 goals scored and 47 conceded (+19 goal difference). The team is 24 points behind the leaders Bayern München. The next match is on October 24, 2026, at home against SV Elversberg. Currently, Viggo Gebel is injured.
