RB Leipzig have completed the signing of 24-year-old French defender Maxime Estève from Burnley. The defender joins the Red Bulls on a contract running until 2031 for a reported fee of around €25 million.

The move continues Leipzig’s tradition of recruiting French talent. Estève becomes the fifth French player in the current squad. The base transfer fee is around €25 million, with potential add-ons pushing the total to €30 million. Estève brings Premier League experience from his time at Burnley under Vincent Kompany, where he made 16 appearances. After Burnley’s relegation, he was signed permanently for €12 million before the Clarets returned to the top flight - only to suffer another drop.

Four centre-backs are now in the team: Castello Lukeba (23), El Chadaille Bitshiabu (21), Abdoul Koné (21), and now Estève. Leipzig chose not to sell players ahead of the transfer to secure the deal. The French now match the number of Austrian players Leipzig have employed since 2009 as the largest foreign contingent.
