RB Leipzig have maintained their interest in Moroccan international Samir El Mourabet. The 20-year-old Strasbourg midfielder was a target for the Saxons during the summer transfer window, but a move did not materialise at that time.
RB Leipzig officials held discussions with Strasbourg in August regarding the signing of El Mourabet. The player himself was reportedly open to a move to the Bundesliga. The French club decided to keep their academy graduate. Leipzig instead completed the signing of Neil El Aynaoui from AS Roma.
Contract situation and valuation
El Mourabet's contract with Strasbourg runs until June 2030, making him an expensive acquisition. The club values him at around €35 million. Given this long contract length and his international experience, he was selected for Morocco's 2026 World Cup squad, an inexpensive transfer is unlikely. Last season, El Mourabet made 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals in the Conference League.

The interest in El Mourabet has survived the summer, even though Leipzig's immediate need in midfield was addressed by signing El Aynaoui. A January move remains a possibility should RB Leipzig decide to meet the asking price. Currently, the Bundesliga side sit ninth in the table with six points from four matches. Their last five results show two wins and three defeats. The next fixture is at home against Eintracht Frankfurt on October 10th, a team they beat 3-1 back in April.
