RB Leipzig will be without new forward Marc Guiu for several weeks. The 20-year-old sustained a muscle injury in his left hamstring during training this week, the club announced on Friday.
The Spaniard, who joined from Chelsea in the summer, had already made his competitive debut in the 3-1 away win at Werder Bremen and started the recent Champions League match against Como. His absence comes at an inconvenient time for Marco Rose's side, who sit fifth in the Bundesliga with six points from three games.
A tough test awaits on Sunday with an away match at Bayer Leverkusen. Leipzig have lost their only away game of the season so far, that match in Bremen. Their recent form of three wins and two losses from the last five matches also shows positive signs, as evidenced by the recent 5-0 home win over Hamburger SV.
"RB Leipzig must do without attacker Marc Guiu for several weeks," the club statement said. No precise return timeline was given. The attack must now rely on remaining forwards like top scorer Antonio Nusa (two goals) in the interim. The next opportunity to gain points in the title race, where they trail Bayern Munich by four points, will therefore be without Guiu.
