RB Leipzig has parted ways with coach Ole Werner after reaching the Champions League. The 59-year-old Jürgen Klopp, Global Sports Director of Red Bull Soccer, has justified the decision. 'Ole did a great job', said Klopp. 'We qualified for the Champions League, but we also have to look ahead.' The separation from Werner came as a surprise, as the team had reached third place under his leadership. Werner still has a contract with Leipzig until 2027. A successor is to be presented soon. Co-trainers Tom Cichon and Patrick Kohlmann also have to leave. Klopp did not want to speculate about the successor. 'I'm not participating in speculation now', he said. 'Everything that needs to be said about it comes from Leipzig.' The dissatisfaction with Werner is said to have been particularly high among supervisory board chairman Oliver Mintzlaff and the global football department around Klopp and former national player Mario Gomez. The new game idea implemented by Werner did not convince there, and RB allegedly needed too much luck to qualify for the Champions League. Argentinian Martín Demichelis is supposed to replace Werner. Demichelis was previously coach of RCD Mallorca. RB Leipzig will present a new coach in the next few days.
